AKA’s Celebrate Sorority’s Centennial

“It’s celebration time!” Kappa Rho Omega Chapter, Farmville, will implement several activities beginning in April 2007 to celebrate the centennial year of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. (1908-2008). Pictured above is Mayor Sydnor C. Newman, Jr. signing a proclamation declaring Saturday, April 21 as Alpha Kappa Alpha Day. The local chapter will host an open house celebration on Saturday at the Farmville Train Station from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The public is invited to share in the chapter’s celebration of 99 years of community “Service to All Mankind.”

Sorority Brings Christmas Cheer

The members of the Kappa Rho Omega Chapter and Lambda Delta Chapter (Longwood University), Farmville, Virginia, brought Christmas cheer to the residents of the G and T Adult Home in Cumberland, Virginia. The chapter members enjoyed preparing and serving a Christmas dinner, distributing gifts, and singing Christmas Carols with the residents of the home. Santa Claus also made a surprise visit during the evening.

This activity is one of the sorority’s ongoing community service projects involving senior citizens. The sorority’s motto is “Service to all Mankind.”
